Matt Mayhall

Matt Mayhall is a drummer, composer, and bandleader known for his deep musicianship and versatility across genres. An artist “who rolls his diverse skills into one untidy, rumbling package” (Modern Drummer), he has collaborated with some of the most influential American artists of the past quarter century, including jazz visionaries Jeff Parker and Chris Speed, performance artist Mike Kelley, and songwriting luminaries Aimee Mann, Ted Leo, and Dar Williams.

Mayhall holds an MFA in Jazz Studies from the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied drums with Joe La Barbera, improvisation with Charlie Haden and Wadada Leo Smith, and West African drumming with Alfred Ladzekpo. He also holds BM and MM degrees in Percussion Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno. He has been a guest artist at the University of Southern California, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Willamette University, and New York University.
